DOG FOULING IN VILLAGE
17th of February, 2025
A photograph (one of many) taken recently in the beautiful village of Rosemarket. Our abhorrence goes to the individuals who allow this horrible dog fouling to go on in the village. There is no need for this to happen, but it will only cease when these people stop the actions themselves or are aided to stop by way of prosecution. Rosemarket Community Council will collaborate with the residents, County Councillor, Dog Warden and Enviro-Crime at Pembrokeshire County Council (An outside company known as WISE who hold the responsibility for Dog Fouling/Littering etc).
Locations where dog-fouling has been particularly bad of late:
(1) The Beacon- mostly Lower.
(2) Bottom end of Front Street.
(3) Middle Street opposite Chapel graveyard.
(4) Westaway Park (grassed area and surrounding pavements).
Westaway Park area is the worst.
To see the amount of dog poo on the Beacons where young children visit makes this a much more serious issue, with all the factors that can affect people health-wise.
The Community Council will try its best to alleviate this problem, but can only do so with the assistance of others. If any of you obtain any evidence to send to Enviro-Crime, please forward it, with information on location and name and address of the offender to Enviro-crime@pembrokeshire.gov.uk. This problem will not go away without everyone’s help.
The following is a piece about Enviro Crime from the Cabinet Member at Pembrokeshire County Council :
"A team of environmental crime enforcement officers has now been carrying out patrols across Pembrokeshire for more than a month. Pembrokeshire County Council selected WISE (Waste Investigations Support & Enforcement) to tackle a range of environmental crimes that have a negative impact on the communities in which people live, work and visit.
As of September 25th, more than 600 Fixed Penalty Notices had been issued. The FPNs have been issued for littering, dog fouling and breach of byelaws relating to dogs on beaches.
The aim is to drive behaviour change in the small percentage of people who cause a big impact on the local environment. In an ideal world there would be no need for this type of enforcement. However, the number of Fixed Penalty Notices issued already shows that there are still people who will drop litter or fail to pick up after their dog and commit other environmental crimes that continue to blight the environment for everybody else. By issuing these Fixed Penalty Notices we are sending the message that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated. Please use the bins provided, please take responsibility for your own actions and do your part to help keep Pembrokeshire a beautiful place for everyone.”
Cllr Sinnett thanked members of the public who have emailed enviro-crime@pembrokeshire.gov.uk to highlight areas of particular concern.
Cllr Sinnett added: “The public will always be our eyes and ears on the ground. Please let us know where issues are happening so we can inform enforcement officers and can target patrols accordingly.”
